Meet Jayla Watson, fashion vlogger! Jayla is the youngest inspiring lady that I've featured so far!

jayla_glamaholic54_2web A little about Jayla

I'm a high school senior in Durham, North Carolina. Along with taking traditional high school classes, I am also in cosmetology school. This coming fall I will be going to college out-of-state and majoring in fashion merchandising. Last summer I attended LIM (Laboratory Institute of Merchandising) in Manhattan, NY, where I studied fashion photography and participated in behind the scenes fashion field trips. I met some amazing people that made me go from just loving fashion to wanting a career in fashion.

It's incredible that you've been able to reach so many people! How are you inspiring others through fashion?

I am known as GlamAholic54 on YouTube. I create videos about my fashion buys, the latest trends, and how I style them. Living in a town where fashion isn't at the forefront, I needed somewhere to express myself. I currently express my passion for fashion to my audience of over 25,000 subscribers. I would say YouTube is half hobby and half job. It's honestly not as easy as it looks, but I wouldn't change it at all. I have had some amazing opportunities working with online fashion retail sites and have even meet some really cool boutique owners.

Meet Chanda Allen, motivational speaker!

ladies who inspire, chanda allen

 A little about Chanda

I currently reside in Randolph County with my husband (Antonio) of ten years and our three children: Kailyn (8 years), Makenzi (4 years), and Aiden (5 months). As a Chatham County product, I have returned to my community as a Humanities instructor and university transfer advisor at the community college which serves Chatham, Harnett, and Lee counties.

I received my Bachelor of Science in English, Secondary Education and my Master of Arts in English and African American Literature from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. For fifteen years (and counting), I have used writing, literature, and culture to motivate and to instill pride in my students as they fulfill their educational goal(s).

Tell us about how you inspire people through your speaking

Not realizing my gift, I have spoken many times at different engagements since my high school years; however, after speaking at the NAACP Humanitarian Banquet in 2009, I embraced my gift of motivating all ages through the teachings of African American history and literature. Due to the overwhelming support from those in attendance, I have had the opportunity to speak/teach on many programs for various churches and organizations.

Although I have only demonstrated my gift in Chatham County, I yearn for the invitation to educate and motivate where needed.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

I enjoy spending free time with my family. This has included participating in a youth choir, coaching cheerleading and tee ball, and being a volunteer for a high school athletic booster. I also enjoy organizing, directing weddings, and working for the NAACP.

Do you have hidden talents?

Organizing and singing

Coffee or Tea?

Tea

Morning person or night person?

Night

Have you ever been told you look like someone famous? Who?

I constantly hear that I look like Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Tamera Mowry-Housley, and I always respond, "I wish I had their money."

What’s the best New Year’s resolution you’ve ever made and actually kept?

Every year, I commit to having a closer relationship to God, which I feel gets stronger daily.

Anything else you'd like to add, about anything at all?

I have completed the draft of my first book, looking to publish. I am currently working to reclassify African American literature as a core course for the North Carolina Community College System. My goal is for the system to see the injustice of having the only other literature among all the community colleges as an elective with no justification when the universities accept it as a humanities and /or actual literature course.

A little about Nazy

Originally I am from Tehran, Iran (Persia). I moved to the States back in 1987 and became a U.S. citizen in August of 1992. I first lived in Virginia but then moved to Florida where we spent 6 years. We came to Charlotte in 2006 and love living here! I am very happily married, with 2 wonderful kids.

Tell us about Artistic Brows by Nazy

My business, Artistic Brows by Nazy, is my passion. For years I told my husband I wanted to open this business but the timing was never right. I started threading at a very young age, learning the skill from my Aunt in Persia. In Florida, I practiced my art of threading in a Day Spa. When we moved to Charlotte, the opportunity to open my own salon presented itself. With my family's full support, I started my business on May 1st, 2010. A day does not go by that I don't thank the Lord for giving me this gift. For me, the part of my job I love the most is interacting with my customers. When I tell people about my business, I always say that I have the best clients, who I consider my friends. My clients come from all over Charlotte and beyond. I have some that drive from Greensboro, Rock Hill, SC and even Charleston, SC!

A little about Maisha

I am originally from the Bronx, but our family relocated to Charlotte when I was pretty young, so that's where I consider home. Since 1994, I have lived in Durham, Miami, Baltimore and finally returned to my Charlotte roots in 2009. I am not married, but accepting applications and while I don't have any children, I love being an auntie to my dear niece who looks enough like me to pass as my own child.

My background in biomedical engineering draws me to all things technical, health and science-related. I also have a welcome addiction to salsa dancing and enjoy learning about various cultures.

Tell us about House of Madison Dessert Boutique

House of Madison Dessert Boutique is a marriage between my passion for food and my love of art. I've had no formal culinary training but I come from a family of amazing chefs who have shown me the ropes in the kitchen and my natural talent for sketching and sculpting has helped me develop my cake decorating skills. When baking reality TV shows like "Ace of Cakes" and "Cake Boss" surfaced, I convinced myself that I could make similar cakes that tasted as good as they looked and began testing recipes and designs on my family and friends.

In the summer of 2011, I started my own home-based bakery, named after my little helper and taste-testing niece, Madison. We specialize in all-occasion cake, cupcake and cookie creations that are so uniquely tailored to our clients' interests that I refer to them as dessert couture.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

When I'm not baking or dancing, I love spending time with my family and close friends, traveling, volunteering, shopping, crafting and eventually relaxing.

Do you have hidden talents?

I'm a classically trained pianist and I've been known to belt out a country tune or two at Karaoke night.

Coffee or Tea?

Tea

Morning person or night person?

I tend to be wired all day and night long

Do you have a favorite dish to cook?

Tequila-lime chicken with saffron rice and fried plantain

Here are some of the gorgeous desserts that are created at House of Madison Dessert Boutique:

Meet Shonnese Stanback of Stanback Law Firm!

A little about Shonnese
I was born in Durham, NC, have lived in Poughkeepsie, NY, but was mostly raised in Marietta, GA. So, I'm from the South, but apparently don't have a Southern accent (thanks to NY)! I'm a life-long musician, a lover of sports and entertainment, and a UNC Tar Heel. I currently live in Durham, NC, and love to travel as much as possible.

Tell us about what you do
I am the owner of Stanback Law Firm, PLLC, located in Cary, NC. I began practicing law in 2000, and have been practicing family law for more than 10 years. My practice serves the Triangle Area, with a high concentration in Wake County. In 2009, I became an Authorized Athlete Representative (an agent) with USA Track & Field. I currently represent 7 young track and field athletes, as well as a popular reality show star.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?
I'm one of those weird people who enjoys exercising! It helps that I have good friends with whom to workout, and push me not to cheat! I love to go to concerts or anything where live music is playing. During the summer, you'll mostly find me at professional and youth track and field meets. I fell in love with track and field many years ago, which makes representing professional track athletes so much fun! When I can gather my golf crew together, we will go hit a local golf course, and spend an afternoon re-writing the rules of golf (haha!)

What is your favorite dish to cook?
I prefer to bake. So, just about any kind of cake or cookie is fun for me to bake. I haven't mastered pies yet.

Shonnese's words of encouragement
I believe that we only get one chance to live happily, so I try everyday to make sure that I take one more step toward living my best life. "Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself." ~Harvey Fierstein
